In 2020, Standpoint continued to be an essential resource for domestic and sexual violence victims, serving all 87 counties of Minnesota. Victims of domestic and sexual violence are at an increased risk because of stay-at-home orders, school closures, limited access to services, and court delays and closures. Despite the many challenges this year, our doors stayed open without interruptions to our services. We did what we always do; we adapted to meet the ever-changing needs of victims, domestic and sexual violence advocates, and other professionals to remain a reliable legal resource during difficult times.
Will you donate to Standpoint to help us support victims in Minnesota?
For many, it is not safe to “Stay at Home.” Closures and changes to the court system, in addition to the increased isolation of victims, have altered the way victims are accessing advocacy services. Standpoint has seen a 32% increase in calls to our Action Line this year.
Will you donate to Standpoint to help us continue to do our work safely?
Standpoint’s Legal Assistance for Victims (LAV) team provided services to 52 individuals with 130 legal issues. LAV provides free legal advocacy and representation on a variety of issues to victims of sexual violence. This year, the need to socially distance called for a major adjustment in how they provided services. The team has remained accessible to victims by using a secure video conferencing platform.

Advocacy makes up 32% of the calls coming to Standpoint. This year, despite shifting services online due to COVID-19, Standpoint trained 2,545 professionals and community members across the state, increasing knowledge of the legal issues surrounding domestic violence, sexual violence, and trafficking.
