questions & Answers

Q: What is an advocate and how can they help me?

A: Advocates are trained professionals who provide support to victims/survivors of sexual violence, domestic/relationship violence, and trafficking. They help victims/survivors explore options, resources, and processes, as well as assisting with safety planning and identifying personal goals. Whether victims/survivors are navigating the legal, medical, or housing system, advocates are here to provide assistance through those processes. Most importantly, advocacy services are free, confidential, and trauma-informed - victims/survivors will always be believed, supported, validated, and empowered.

Please note: Advocates are not attorneys and cannot provide you with legal advice.

To speak with an advocate about ways they can support you or to learn more about their roles and responsibilities, please contact Standpoint:
